Semblanza
Helen Carter has been a tenured professor in the Language Department at Campus Guadalajara since 2002. She has taught classes including Business English, Academic Reading and Writing, Engineering English, Verbal Expression and Analysis of Information and also has experience with BULATS and TOEFL preparation. She has been involved with Cambridge University as an oral examiner for the ILEC, ICFE, BULATS and IELTS examinations and has been a conference participant and presenter at the MEXTESOL and PROULEX conferences. Ms. Carter has also delivered bespoke language courses for multinational companies in both Mexico and Nicaragua. In addition to her responsibilities as a professor at the university, Ms. Carter is also involved into translating and editing the research papers produced on the campus and freelance translating and editing work. She holds a certification in editing from the American Copy Editors Society (ACES) and has been an ACES conference participant, as well as having delivered workshops in MEXTESOL, PROULEX and the Centro Nicaraguense/Norte-Americano in Managua, Nicaragua.
Ms. Carter holds a Master of Arts in Teaching English as a Foreign Language from Birmingham University and has been teaching English to a variety of ages and levels since 1996 in countries as diverse as Sudan, UK, Turkey and Nicaragua. Her areas of professional interest are sociolinguistics and materials development, and she has also been involved in the English Program of the Social Incubators at ITESM Campus Guadalajara.
