Ma 95 079 Stochastic Processes
Units:3-0-8 Requirement: Ma 00 835 Probability and Statistics Semester and career:IFI, 6th semester Equivalence:None
General aim of the course:This course is directed towards introducing the student to nondeterministic models. The focus is mainly heuristic to develop a probabilistic intuition in the student. Proofs and demonstrations are based in probabilistic more than analytic arguments. The following processes are presented: Poisson, Markov and Renewal processes.

Ma 95 080 Heurestic Optimization
3-0-8 Requirement:In95-841,Ma95-075,Ma95-076,Ma95-078
Semester and career:IFI, ISE, IIS, IEC 7th Semester
Equivalence:None
General aim of the course:To introduce the students to the design and analysis of heurestic methods of combinatorial optimization. This includes the development of skills to identify problems that cannot be solved exactly by means of efficent algorithms, and thus approximate solutions are required. The techniques to be discussed in the course are those populary known as metaheuristics, in particular the following will be covered: Tabu Search, Genetic Algorithms and Neural Networks
