GENERAL OBJETIVE

This course will offer a general study of the musical vocabulary, genres and musical forms, periods in the History of Western Music, study of some of the most relevant composers of the past 400 years, and the analysis of some of their works. At the end of the semester, the student will be able to locate a work according to the musical period in which it was written, considering the stylistic characteristics of that period. He or she would have developed a capacity for criticism in order to appreciate in a deeper sense a wide variety of musical works. The student will also place a musical style and compositional characteristics within the context of the other arts, and within social, political, and philosophical movements.

General aim of the course:Students interested in this course should be matriculated in any of
the last semesters of their career/field, and willing to take this
course as an option or 'topic'.
The scope of interest in this course presupposes students willing to investigate about themselves, and how they assign gender socially. All along with an interpretation, in cultural and political terms, of apprehending 'women' as a 'second sex'.
Our aim in this course shall be disentangling scientific methodology towards the self and activity of women in society. Throughout the course several aspects will be reviewed, both biological and psychological, elucidating differences and similarities between men and women. Above all, an emphasis will be done in a socio-cultural analysis from a gender perspective with emphasis in Mexico at last.
