COURSE DESCRIPTION The course is concerned with the application of financial theory to the problems or investment management. The approach taken is "botton-up) (instead of "top-down) in the sense that we will first study the valuation (selection) of financial instruments and then cover portfolio optimization and risk management. Topics will include stock and bond valuation and investment strategies, portfolio optimization and asset allocation , the CAMP, and their implications for investment management.

Introduction to risk and risk management. Introduction to value at risk, portfolio risk and time varying risk modeling. Value at risk approaches such as delta-normal, structured Monte Carlo and stress testing. Operational and credit risk. Implementation of a risk management system. Risk management pitfalls.
