COURSE DESCRIPTION

This course is designed to help students consolidate their English through the creative processes of speaking and writing. The oral component requires students to prepare, deliver, and evaluate public speeches in English. This part of the course familiarizes students with the basics of public speaking, including the listening process, and prepares them to become competent communicators and effective listeners. Public speaking skills will facilitate students' interactions with English-speaking groups in both academic and business situations.

The writing component of the course helps students to organize and structure their speeches and compositions logically and coherently, and strengthens their command of grammar, punctuation and mechanics. The comprehensive process of writing, as well as specific writing tasks, such as resumes, job applications, and research papers are studied. Being able to write well is closely tied to critical thinking, and should help

students meet the intellectual challenges of their future academic and professional lives.
