H Humanities

H3001. Remedial English

This course introduces students to an elementary study of the English language through the integration and practice of the four linguistic skills (oral and written production and comprehension). Practice of the language and development of skills is achieved by making the student an active element in each activity of the teaching learning process. In addition students will be able to develop thinking skills such as: classifying, sequencing, inferring and reaching conclusions, etc. The course content is based on everyday situations, focusing on communication. Students show their command of the content when they increase their comprehension, by producing of oral and written material and by applying learning strategies.

H5007. Aesthetics in Latin America: The 20th Century
An importan part of the reflections of Twentieth century that are in force todayare based on aesthetic interpretation of reality. It s therefore relevant to study basic and elemental thinkers on this subject such as: Heidegger, Gadamer and The Frankfurt School among others. It is also important to study authors recognized as part of postmodern thinking such as Vattimo and Lyotard. This course also undertakes the philosophical study of the diverse and fruitful Latin American artistic production in its different lines, from the classics to folk art and popular art in its different expressions.

H5029. Arguing in Ethics

Practical ethics means that the rules and principles relied on historically are not applicable to all situations. One needs to examine the context, the situation, and the particular individuals involved. As a result, argumentation becomes very important in deciding ethical actions. This course teaches modern Theory of Argumentation and how to apply it to real situations. Theories examined include Informal Logic, Pragma-Dialectics, Coalescent Argumentation, as well as reading from Govier, Habermas, Perelman and Walton.
